Oh Immune System!
The inevitable has happened. I was hoping to last a little longer into the semester but alas my immune system has crashed and I have a full fledge cold. I am no stranger to being sick during school. During my three and a half years at CU, I have gotten 3 sinus infections, a double ear infection, pink eye twice, and bronchitis. I used to pride myself on having a good immune system in high school, but I don’t think that applies anymore. Luckily, Wardenburg Health Center on campus has always been there to save the day! They have many services including a medical clinic, a women’s health clinic, a travel clinic, a pharmacy, psychological health programs, and various sport medicine programs. They also offer insurance programs that can piggy back onto the insurance you get through your parents. Since I have been prone to end up with various infections, I have always chosen to get some type of insurance through Wardenburg. This way I can go into the medical clinic and be seen by a physician without a co-pay! If you end up getting a prescription, all you have to do then is walk down the hall to get it filled. It doesn’t get much easier than that kids! Here is a link to the Wardenburg site: http://healthcenter.colorado.edu/
They also supply cold packs to students every cold season. This includes throat lozenges, tea, Kleenex, and a coupon to chili on campus! What more could you want!
However, my favorite memory of Wardenburg was during my freshman year. I had gotten into a really bad bike accident in the middle of October, in which I flew over my handle bars and landed face first onto the cement. Needless to say, I was taken to the ER since there was quite a lot of blood gushing out of my face. A couple days after the accident, I went into Wardenburg to make sure my face was healing correctly and to refill a prescription for the pain. I was seen by a great doctor who assured me that my face would heal just fine! Then a couple weeks later, I went back with pink eye and had the same doctor who remembered me from the bike accident! He also called me a couple days later to make sure everything was going ok. This made those couple of traumatic weeks during freshman year a little smoother, because I knew I had somewhere to go to get help with all my various aliments. Hopefully you will never experience anything quite like that, but if so it is very nice to know there is a great place to go to get help.
Hopefully everyone else's immune systems are holding up! And sorry for not posting a picture this week but since I kind of resemble Rudolph I will spare you ;)
Until next time :)
Emily
