Admitted International Students

If you have been admitted to CU-Boulder as an International student, use this page as a guide to completing the admissions process and confirming your enrollment.

Next Steps After Admission

Submit any remaining required documentation, if applicable. Even if you have been admitted academically, you may still be missing required items for immigration documentation, such as your TOEFL/IELTS score and/or financial statement form. Check your status in your MyCUBoulder account to see if you have any missing items, which are indicated on your applicant checklist by a status of 'Initiated'.

Confirm your intent to enroll on the ‘Confirm’ tab in your MyCUBoulder account. Read the confirmation instructions carefully and pay attention to the confirmation deadline. If you would like to defer your admission or if you will not be attending CU-Boulder, you can notify the Office of Admissions through the ‘Confirm’ tab in your MyCUBoulder account.

Explore housing options. All first-year students are required to live on campus for two academic-year semesters, provided that space is available. For transfer students, it is optional to live on campus, but most international transfer students prefer this option. Learn more about your housing options at housing.colorado.edu.

Keep your contact information up to date. It is critical that you notify us immediately of any change to your e-mail address or your permanent and/or mailing address(es). To update your address(es), go to the “My Information” section in your MyCUBoulder account or contact the admissions office at +1-303-492-6301 or intladm@colorado.edu.

If you decide not to attend CU-Boulder and would like to cancel your application or admission, please send an e-mail to intladm@colorado.edu to notify us of your cancellation.

Next Steps After Confirmation

Complete immigration paperwork, if applicable. After we have received all required materials for immigration documentation, we will be able to offer you full admission and prepare your Form I-20. At this time, we will e-mail you specific instructions about your immigration paperwork and offer you the chance to select an express shipping option for your Form. This service is available at your own cost. If you do not select this option within a week of us sending you the e-mail, we will mail the Form via standard mail, which typically takes 4-8 weeks to arrive. Contact  international admissions at intladm@colorado.edu if you have questions regarding your I-20. International applicants currently in the U.S. on an F-1 visa must submit an Immigration Transfer Form (to be completed by an international student advisor at your current institution) at this time.

Read important information from International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS). Now that you have completed the admissions process, you will begin to work with our International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) office. ISSS will provide you with important information about applying for your visa, preparing for arrival, international student orientation, and much more.

Apply for your student visa. Step-by-step instructions on the student visa process are provided in your Information for Admitted Students packet and on the ISSS website.

Activate your IdentiKey. Your IdentiKey is your username for all CU-Boulder online services as a student. Office of Information Technology (OIT) will send you a 4-digit PIN number to use in place of a social security number. If you have not received your PIN number yet, please contact help@colorado.edu to request it. Activate your IdentiKey now.
Apply for housing. All freshman students are required to live on campus for two academic-year semesters, provided that space is available. For transfer students, it is optional to live on campus, but most international transfer students prefer this option. Learn more about your housing options and apply for housing at housing.colorado.edu. Housing reservations are processed in the order they are received. The earlier you apply the more likely you are to get one of your top choices. Please note that the $300 housing deposit must be paid at the time of application.

You will need to activate your IdentiKey (see above) before you can apply for housing. It typically takes 2-3 business days after you activate your IdentiKey before you can apply for housing.

Register for orientation. Orientation sessions are a great introduction to CU-Boulder, and they are required for all new freshman and transfer students. International students beginning in the fall are expected to attend the orientation session in mid-August. If you do not attend orientation, you will not be able to enroll in classes. Visit orientation.colorado.edu for more information and to register.

Sign up for International Student Check-in and Welcome Sessions. In addition to the general university orientation, all international students MUST attend the International Student Check-in and Welcome Sessions hosted by ISSS. If you are an F-1 or J-1 student, your legal status depends on you checking in with ISSS in a timely manner. These sessions are held one or two weeks prior to the start of the semester, so plan your travel dates accordingly. More information and check-in dates and times are available on the ISSS website.

Arrange for your final transcripts to be sent to the Office of Admissions. Your final official transcripts from your current school should be submitted to the Office of Admissions as soon as they are available or upon arrival to campus. The Office of Admissions reserves the right to cancel your admission if your final transcripts do not reflect academic achievement similar to our assessment at the time of admission. Request your final transcripts online.
