Engineering Management

Founded in 1987 through a Lockheed Martin endowment, the Engineering Management Program (EMP) serves students who are seeking career advancement and new management opportunities in the engineering and technology arenas.  The program is designed for working professionals who want to develop in-depth managerial and entrepreneurial skills specific to engineering and the applied sciences.

Degree Details: 

ME (Masters of Engineering in Engineering Management)
The degree is focused on preparing the next generation of engineering leaders by offering a top-quality, masters-level engineering management program available on-campus or through distance learning. The portability and flexibility of the distance option enables the student to balance an advanced degree with a fast-paced career and life. The curriculum focuses on the unique requirements of technical management, including: finance and accounting, project management, quality and productivity, process management, leadership, and entrepreneurship. CAETE, the Center for Advanced Engineering and Technology Education, delivers the distance courses in Video Streaming. CDs and DVDs are available upon request.

Admissions Requirements: 
  1. Baccalaureate degree, or its equivalent, in engineering, computer science, applied mathematics, or a physical science.
  2. Undergraduate GPA of at least 3.00. Applicants with a GPA under 3.00 are required to take the GRE.
  3. Working knowledge of Applied Statistics.
  4. Minimum of two years of professional experience after the undergraduate degree.
  5. Demonstrated proficiency in narrative writing.   Proctored writing exam is required. Contact the department for more detail.
  6. Four letters of recommendation (two professional and two academic).

Work Experience
Applicants must have a minimum of two years of experience in a technical field and a bachelor's degree in engineering or hard science to be admitted in regular status. Prospective degree students who do not have an undergraduate degree in engineering or a technical field have an opportunity to take pre-entrance courses to qualify for admission into the program.

International Applicants
International applications move through a two-step process. First, the application materials are processed through the Office of International Admissionand then forwarded to Engineering Management for an academic evaluation. International students submit their application materials 2-4 months prior to the departmental deadlines to ensure adequate processing time.
